Anything and everything relating to Cindy Sherman and her artwork: interviews, quotes by and about Cindy, videos, candid shots, exhibition views, and--most importantly--Sherman's masterful photographs. I will do my best to provide a nice mix of both well-known works, and some of her more rare pieces.
Sherman, along with six other artists—including another one of my favorites, Tracey Emin—were invited by Playboy to contribute works that “explore the female body as a work of art.” The January/February issue will include two photographs by Sherman, both taken in 1992. “One shows a nude body with artificial body parts with the artist’s face. The other is a plastic doll bent backwards with its crotch thrust forwards.” Interesting!
Cindy Sherman - Nobody’s Here But Me (1994 Documentary)
I have been looking for this documentary for years—thankfully, someone was kind enough to upload it on YouTube recently! It includes footage of Cindy Sherman working in her studio—a rarity. Throughout the documentary, you can see outtakes from the Untitled Film Stills, as well as several of her other earlier works. There’s also some nice interview footage with Robert Longo and Jackie Lee Curtis, among others. Overall, this is a very fascinating watch for anyone interested in Cindy and her work.
