We Love Cindy Sherman

Anything and everything relating to Cindy Sherman and her artwork: interviews, quotes by and about Cindy, videos, candid shots, exhibition views, and--most importantly--Sherman's masterful photographs. I will do my best to provide a nice mix of both well-known works, and some of her more rare pieces.

Cindy Sherman - Untitled Film Still #82, 1980
Happy Father’s Day! Did you know that Sherman’s father helped her shoot several of the Untitled Film Stills, including this and the iconic “hitchhiker” photograph?

#82 was taken in Arizona, by my father, in a cabin we were renting in Prescott. The camera was on a tripod but I guess my shutter release cord didn’t reach as far as I wanted to shoot, so he clicked the shutter. It’s cropped—because my father was peering into the frame. I did a lot of severe cropping, which was why I felt okay about giving other people control of the camera: I figured I could always crop down to what I wanted.
